Must-Have Features for a Newlywed Home

Aight, nobody really talks about this, but if you mess up, best believe you’re in for some serious regret. I’m an engineer in KL, my wife’s a teacher—finding an affordable home after a wedding is no joke.

Money’s already drained from the wedding, and now we gotta deal with rent, deposits, and moving costs. So here’s what I’ve learned from experience—take notes.

1. Location Must Be Traffic-Proof, or Your Sanity is Gone

Bro, KL traffic is a different breed of suffering. Right now, we’re looking for a new place, and guess what? Rental deposits are hitting RM6000+.

So, what’s the move? Prioritize your wife’s work location. ✅ If she doesn’t drive, drop her off first, then head to work. ✅ If she has a car, at least only one of you suffers through the traffic.Happy wife, happy life. No arguments there.

Pro Tip: 🚗 Drive by the area during rush hour (7-8 AM & 5-7 PM). 📍 Check Google Maps live traffic before committing. You’re welcome.

2. Avoid Stairs—Biggest Mistake Ever

This is one thing I never saw coming.Multi-story houses = a living nightmare.

After a long day at work, you’re drained, physically and mentally. Maybe you and your wife had a little argument (happens to the best of us).

Now imagine:

🛏 Your bedroom is upstairs. 🚶‍♂️ You have to climb all the way up when all you want is to pass out. 😩 Too tired? Now you’re sleeping on the couch.

Eventually, we just moved all our essentials downstairs. Waste of space. If you have the chance, get a single-story house or a compact condo.

3. Check the Neighborhood Vibes Before You Move In

This is something nobody tells you.

Our house? Right in front of a Speedmart, Mixue, DIY.

Sounds convenient, right? Until— 😤 Surprise: NIGHT MARKET EVERY WEEK. 🚗 People parking right in front of our house. 👀 Try asking them to move? Instant attitude.

And then, there’s the sound pollution. If your house is too close to main roads or shops, prepare for motorbikes with illegal exhausts screaming at 2 AM.

Lesson: Always walk around the area at different times of the day before signing anything. Google Maps won’t show you these problems.

4. Think Twice Before Moving Into the City

Living in the city? Sounds great in theory. In reality? It burns your wallet.

🔥 RM6000+ just for deposits 🔥 RM500+ just to move a 1-ton truckload of stuff 🔥 If you pick the wrong place, you’re stuck for at least a year

Plan everything at least a month before the wedding. The last thing you want is to juggle wedding stress AND moving stress.

5. Don’t Move In With Your Parents (Yet)—Why? Stay Tuned

This topic deserves a whole separate post. But trust me, don’t. Just don’t.
